Kayaks are a ton of fun, so maintaining your boat is an important part of a paddler’s life! Always keep in mind that an ounce of prevention is worth its weight in gold. Keeping your kayak clean and well maintained will ensure the longevity of your craft. Cleaning it on a regular basis and keeping it free from clutter is a good first step. Here are a few tips that will help to ensure your craft remains like new for a long time to come. To begin with, it is important to use a hose to rinse the inside and outside of your boat after each use. This keeps the moving parts free of salt and debris. This is especially applicable if you do a lot of saltwater kayaking, as salt will those metal parts on the inside. Inflatable kayaks may not need as much maintenance, but still need caring for.

Always remember to check your craft for leaks or cracks before you store it. If you find any holes, patch them immediately or you could forget. One great way to find these cracks or holes is to shine a flashlight inside your kayak in a dark room. When it comes to storing kayaks, one of the best places is a cool garage. If you store it in a shed, it is inclined to get dried out. Keeping your boat outdoors all the time is not a good idea as it can fade the paint and even cause it to peel when exposed to the elements all time.

Inflatable rafts, dinghy rafts or rigid inflatable rafts, all need some form of routine maintenance. A good nylon brush used with a mild type of detergent and the garden hose will keep your inflatable nice and clean. If you have to store your kayak outdoors, purchase a cockpit cover. This type of cover is like a spray skirt without the hole. Covering it will keep creepy crawlies out and prevent water from collecting on the inside. If you don’t have a cockpit cover, make sure that it is covered with some other type of cover. With a bit of routine maintenance, kayaks can look new for years!

The media conscientiously reports high profile cases of sexual child abuse, but the reports lack the facts regarding pedophiles/ephebophiles; the definition of sexual child abuse or the profile of a sex offender. Anyone who knows the sex offender is invited to give their uneducated opinion regarding the matterand the case becomes a ‘he said, she/he said,’ case and the myths and misconceptions about sexual child abuse and sex offenders continue to proliferate. The majority of people disbelieve a person of fame or a pillar of the community could possibly sexually abuse children. Not one day goes by without several reports of sexual child abuse in the U.S.–according to government statistics less than 1% are abused by strangers.

Studies reveal 62% of girls and 31% of boys will be sexually abused by age 18these statistics are low based on health service findings. 80% are sexually abused by a family member; 19% are abused by a trusted adult.

The unbelievable truth: Pedophiles/Ephebophiles conduct themselves as average and ordinary to the world. He or she may be a leader in the church; the community; or business. Pedophiles/Ephebophiles seldom fit a classic stereotype education, socioeconomic status, career or culture. Furthermore, sexual abuse/incest is more difficult to believe or accept when the person we like, admire, love, and/or marry is the perpetrator. This is precisely why those who know the sex offender, fans and the uninformed can unequivocally believe he could not possibly be a Pedophilesexual attraction to pre-adolescents; or Ephebophilesexual attraction to adolescents.

Pedophiles/Ephebophiles are cunning predators with a honed mode of operation. They are experts at manipulation, thus escaping adult reality. They feel entitled, justifying their actions as loving; not harming the child. They expend considerable energy maintaining this illusion to themselves and others. They create a persona of goodness beyond reproach. They go to great lengths to present themselves as exemplary people, who love children. Michael Jackson’s defense attorney, Mesereau, invoked this convoluted logic in response to the judge’s ruling that previous accounts of sexual abuse claims, which were settled, was admissible. Mesereau countered, “He [Jackson] also has spent millions on children with AIDS. We can drown them with examples of where Mr. Jackson has been so benevolent, so generous, so charitable, so giving for good causes, that it will make their theory look silly.”

Mesereau’s statement exemplifies, that anyone who sees through the perpetrator’s facade is met with admonishment and rebuke for being judgmental critical, irrational, racist, out-to-get the person, and/or jealous. The perpetrator is the family and society’s emperor with no clothes. “I know my son, and this is ridiculous,” Jackson’s mother, Katherine Jackson, said in an interview on CBS “The Early Show.” She said people who believe Michael is guilty “don’t know him.” Jackson’s father, said his son was beloved around the world but had trouble in the United States because of racism. He said the accuser’s motives were clear: “It’s about money.”

Even more frightening Pedophiles/Ephebophiles do not hold beliefs reflecting society’s moral and ethical values. Therefore, coupled with the child’s innocence and trust of the abuser usually pressure or violence is seldom required. Thus, the perpetrator can unequivocally state, ‘I love children. Never-ever. I could never harm a child or anyone. It’s not in my heart. It’s not who I am.’ –Michael Jackson, 1993.

There is another insidious aspect to Jackson’s contact with adolescents: he flaunts the relationship as ’sweet and innocent’ admonishing anyone for believing it is sexual. Using the definition of sexual abuse, Jackson’s befriending adolescent boys under the guise of helping them with a life threatening illness or recapturing his own lost childhood and/or sleeping with them, albeit, he slept on the floor and the child slept in his bed, is in and of itself sexual abuse.

“Incest is both sexual abuse and an abuse of power. It is violence that does not require force. Another is using the victim, treating them in a way that they do not want or in a way that is not appropriate by a person with whom a different relationship is required. It is abuse because it does not take into consideration the needs or wishes of the child; rather, it meets the needs of the other person at the child’s expense. If the experience has sexual meaning for another person, in lieu of a nurturing purpose for the benefit of the child, it is abuse. If it is unwanted or inappropriate for her age or the relationship, it is abuse. Incest [sexual abuse] can occur through words, sounds, or even exposure of the child to sights or acts that are sexual but do not involve her. If she is forced to see what she does not want to see, for instance, by an exhibitionist, it is abuse. If a child is forced into an experience that is sexual in content or overtone that is abuse. As long as the child is induced into sexual activity with someone who is in a position of greater power, whether that power is derived through the perpetrator’s age, size, status, or relationship, the act is abusive. A child who cannot refuse, or who believes she or he cannot refuse, is a child who has been violated.” (E. Sue Blume, Secret Survivors).

Heretofore society has concentrated their efforts entirely on repairing the damage. It is time we focus our attention on prevention before the damage is done. Without vilifying the sex offender, Dr. Neddermeyer has revealed the cruel realities of sexual child abuse and exposed the sex offender’s modus operandi to the extent anyone; even young children armed with solid information and well-honed strategies can thwart even the most cunning sex offender.

What’s the difference between an amateur and a professional when it comes to poker playing? Professionals consistently win. Do you want to win like a pro? Professional poker players are professionals for a good reason - their professionals. They weren’t always that way. They learnt from poker players that were more advanced and discovered hidden traits that make them the best. Here are three hidden traits I have discovered that separates amateurs and professionals. These three traits will dramatically increase your earnings. Lets get to it and learn them.

Do you read minds?

Hidden secret number one: Professional poker players know how to read players. The better you are at reading the more you will understand how to play against them. I’m not talking about behavioral twitches, which is not available for you online. But you need to consider their raising, folding, re-raising, and other habits on the table. Do they fold early on? Do they fold when you bet big all of the time. Were they bluffing from the flop, but got lucky on the river or turn? You need to be aware of their betting habits, and professionals know how to do this. Practice online or with friends on your poker night. Beware though: practicing online to learn this skill will require real money, because people do not react the same way with “play money”. Most people do react the same way with real money, practice and pick this skill up. This will save you a lot of money in losses, and take your poker revenues sky high.

Don’t flood the market

Hidden secret number two: Professional poker players don’t bet on every hand. Poker players that have constant success take their time and don’t flood bets in. They are confident in their skills to read players that they don’t have to bet on every “possible” hand they could get. They usually bet on hands like pocket aces, or high suited cards. Don’t make the mistake that I use to make and bet because I had royalty. I usually would bet on a Q,9 or a J,8 I have found that cards like this, don’t pay off. It is rare that they will pay off however. When you show others that you’re not betting on any old thing that comes through, your bets will have more weight and you’ll be considered more conservative. So when you do bet, and bluff, you will be taking more seriously. Learning this secret has enabled my poker wins to jump, even when some people don’t bet against me. Remember the price of something goes up if its rare, if you bet rarely, it will be weighted more.

Just a little bit

Hidden secret number three: Professional poker players rarely rush in to a hand. How often do you see pro’s betting within a 2-minute time frame on ESPN? There’s a reason for this. It confuses the opposing player. They are thinking, “Does he have a good hand?” “Why is he taking so long?” “What is he considering?” This technique only helps your chances. To through a spanner in the works, professionals sometimes bet a hand quickly to throw people off. It is gold! Master it and you can really make your poker personality known. There are a lot more poker secrets for you to discover. They are hidden from view, but are valuable enough to make you serious money.

Do you know the insider insights for online poker? They can literally explode your poker revenues! You need to visit Online Gambling Insights and get an edge.

If you’re a writer, researcher, subject matter expert, enthusiastic hobbyist, or an authority on almost any topic, there has never been a better time to start your own subscription website or online newsletter.

And if you’re already publishing a hobby website, now is the ideal time to convert at least a portion of the content to fee-paid access.

Smart website owners are now realizing just how valuable their hard-earned knowledge is to others. Much of the information that used to be available for free to anyone and everyone on the World Wide Web is moving behind closed doors, accessible only to paying subscribers.

Savvy writers and publishers are not giving it away anymore. They’re setting up profit-driven, members-only websites and building online communities of subscribers who value their knowledge. Perhaps surprisingly, resistance to paying for content is gradually melting away.

The end of free

This trend away from websites offering free information and toward a subscription, or pay-for-access business model, has several causes.

First, only a few websites operated by big companies can afford to provide valuable content without being compensated. Some of them can do it for the public relations value, but they are the exception.

The rest of us can’t be so generous. And trying to recapture our expenses by selling advertising on our websites has failed to pay the bills. Online advertising and click-through rates are on the decline.

Second, many people are now more than willing to pay to learn what you already know, as thousands of online publishers of subscription websites have already proven.

Why subscribers are ready to pay

The Internet has enabled people with similar interests to find each other and form online communities. Whether your interest is in politics, gardening, or model railroading, the Internet enables you to connect to others who share your enthusiasms and values.

But in the current political and social climate, there is heightened anxiety and concern about privacy. If you previously contributed to public online discussion forums, you may now be feeling vulnerable. You never know who is lurking and reading your comments, or gathering information about you. One frequent concern: what spammers are harvesting your e-mail address?

However, in the seclusion of a subscribers-only website, you feel more protected. You can share ideas with an affinity group of like-minded people with less fear of ridicule or repercussions. The publisher moderates the forum and promises to honor your privacy.

These concerns are not diminishing over time, they are intensifying as people perceive the world — and cyberspace — as an increasingly dangerous place. The result has been a proliferation of private, members-only, subscription websites and online newsletters covering literally hundreds of diverse and specialized topics.

Finding the right subscription business model

Coming up with the right topic for a successful subscription website is usually the biggest stumbling block for those wanting to get into this business. Choosing your site topic is a serious issue, as the topic you select pretty much dictates your chances of success with a subscription website.

Research by the Subscription Website Publishers Association (http://www.SWEPA.com) shows at least five successful models for subscription website topic selection. These include existing print newsletter topics; trade and professional associations; career advancement, personality based or insider tips; and downloadable product libraries. For details go to http://www.swepa.com/public/136.cfm.

As the Internet changes, it is creating moneymaking opportunities for people who like to write, teach and otherwise share their expertise. Your years of study, hands-on experience, and tried and true wisdom could be worth a hefty income when turned into an online community.

Online communities bring together people who are interested in a common topic. They create value by providing insiders’ secrets that the group is eager to learn about. And best of all, the members are willing to pay money to join.

Why having a subscription website on the Internet is so great

As the publisher of a subscription website, you have an almost unfair advantage over other print publications that don’t operate on the Internet. Consider the benefits:

  • Low cost of entry — a computer, minimal software and Internet access are all you need.

  • No or low rent — work from home.

  • Low overhead — production and distribution costs are close to zero.

  • No employees — do it all yourself.

  • Operate from anywhere in the world.

  • Access a worldwide audience.

  • Reach a well educated, affluent market.

  • Offer a visually rich website, with text, images, audio or video.

  • Sell and deliver digital information products instantly.

  • Build loyal communities through discussion groups, online events.

The next phase in the subscription website evolution

Information is increasing in value. Over the next several years, the trend to information provided on the Internet by paid subscription will continue.

A two-tier model for the dissemination of quality content is emerging. Successful online publishers provide samples of their wares for free, either on the public portion of their website, or through a free, opt-in e-mail newsletter.

But to get down to the most valuable data — the premium content of secrets and the insider’s tips and techniques — subscribers are learning that they have to pay. Information seekers are getting accustomed to the change, just as they have learned to pay for premium content on cable and satellite television.

The most successful online publishers will be those who can strike the perfect balance between free and fee. The time to get started with your own subscription website is now.

The subject of coffee is one that covers a large number of products such as wholesale coffee beans, specialty coffees and also coffee makers, as with a variety of other topics food and drink data is best obtained from a specialist. A coffee expert will supply anyone with much better knowledge than say a general food and drink website, specialists know coffee products inside out will be able to offer you first hand info on merchandise like stainless steel coffee pots or even insulated coffee mugs.

For many years coffee reviews have been published all over the web and the subject of beverages is now easier than ever for buyerss to research, imagine you were searching for a food and drink review on a kenyan coffee powder, such a thing may appear on one of the many specialist coffee directories.

Whilst shopping for a coffee you should think about this, if you buy a stainless coffee blender but were not happy with the item would the coffee vendor part exchange the merchandise for a barista coffee maker or some other item? you should to choose a coffee seller you have some confidence in or a coffee site that looks reliable.

When you first start looking into coffee products make sure you make a note of the merchandise you are actually interested in buying, for instance coffee grinders, gourmet coffee beans, blended coffee packs, be precise as this will be particularly useful later on, when you have done this you should evaluate these items on some of the many coffee websites, by making the list in the first place you will save a mass of time because you can easily get lost in a whole heap of food and drink and coffee connected guidess and articles.

Do you remember when your child lost their first tooth? You probably took a picture to preserve the memory. You get a warm feeling just thinking about that cute smile. Hey, why not take a look at that photo right now?

What’s that? You can’t because you don’t know which box of photos you stored the picture in? That warm fuzzy feeling has quickly turned to frustration because you know that memorable smile is lost, buried in some drawer or box somewhere, possibly lost forever.

That scenario used to be the story of my life. That is until I decided to stop losing memories and start cherishing them with a scrapbook. What better way to relive memories– page by page, memory by memory.

Okay, I know what you’re saying; “I don’t have time for scrapbooking, that’s only for crafty people.” I know that’s what I used to say. Then I discovered some simple tips to make scrapbooking easy and yet still professional looking.

Basically, all you need to scrapbook is an album, some glue, a pair of scissors, and some photographs or newspaper clippings.

Any fabric, ribbon, or bits of leftovers from other projects can be used to embellish your scrapbook.

If you’re too busy to get those materials, you can even buy complete kits that include not only the album but also the background paper for your project. Some kits will even include embellishments like beads, flowers, feathers, and even paste on letters. Get one or more of these kits and you can create a beautiful keepsake in just a just a couple of hours.

Once you have you scrapbooking materials together, it’s time to pull out your photos. While going through your photos you’re going to start thinking about a “theme” for your scrapbook page.

Creating a theme is important if you want your scrapbook to look professional. It’ll also make the process of sorting through photos easier and that’s the effect we’re after; fast, easy and professional looking.

To create your theme, think about these questions;

- what is the overall purpose for my scrapbook? - Who is the scrapbook for? - Who is the scrapbook about?

Once you have your answers -you have the appropriate subject of your theme!

Now that you have your scrapbook theme, it’s time to start planning your pages. Another tip I found that made this process easy is planning a “Title” for my pages.

Titles can be as basic as the date of an event, the name of an individual, or a specific event. Or they can also be more interesting and exciting by including quotes, sayings, fillers, or simple phrases. Some great places to look for title inspiration; in greeting cards, advertisements, and commercials.

That’s it! You now have the basics to start creating great looking scrapbooks. I wish I had known it was so easy; my family photos have spent nearly all their memorable lives hidden in drawers until I discovered these simple tips.

So what are you waiting for?

Now that you know these simple tips, you can save and cherish memories forever in a professional looking scrapbook, in very little time. And believe me, your friends and family will say “wow” when they come over to take a look. Become an easy scrapbook maker today!

If you do business as an affiliate, then you’re constantly concerned with getting your name and your business information out there. You probably send a lot of e-mails, post on message boards, and submit articles to business e-zines. These are great techniques for making contacts, but are you taking full advantage of the visibility these forums create?

One of the best ways of creating new business is to include a Signature File with everything you post, send or submit. What exactly is a sig file? It’s that little paragraph beneath a person’s signature at the end of an article, posting or e-mail. This is your opportunity to let people know who you are and to direct them to your business.

Now you may already include your url at the end of your correspondence. That’s great, but is that enough? Not quite. Of course it’s great to have your url so that anyone who’s interested in what you’re saying can immediately check out your business site, but wouldn’t they be more likely to click if you included a short description of what you do? For example, rather than closing an e-mail or posting with:

Manny Jackson

http://rockoutandrollover.com

try something a little more descriptive and catchy, like:

Manny Jackson

Check out Manny’s hot music publishing tips at

http://rockoutandrollover.com,

or one step further:

Manny Jackson

Manny can answer all your questions about music

publishing. E- mail him at Mannyj@irock.com, or

check out his website:

http://www.rockoutandrollover.com

That little extra bit could be the difference between a trickle of new business and a flood.

It’s not enough to just give an address, you’ve got to give people a reason to click. You’ve got to spark an interest in what you do. By creating a short, catchy and descriptive sig file, you can really set yourself ahead of the pack.

The Healthy Way17 Nov 2008 01:43 pm

As a person ages, a certain amount of memory loss and confusion is quite normal. Personally, I’ve been known to invoke the cliché, “The older I get, the better I was!” Unfortunately, Alzheimer’s disease represents a more serious loss of mental sharpness and calls for special care for seniors.

Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s Disease is a progressive form of pre-senile dementia. Symptoms are typically first noted in a person’s late forties or early fifties. As the disease takes effect, it will first impact memory. Impaired thought and speech will follow with the patient eventually becoming helpless.

Alzheimer’s is a truly horrible disease because it robs a person of their ability to function. The disease is also damaging to family and friends as it is very difficult to watch a parent, brother, sister or friend progress to the point where they don’t recognize anyone. The burden of caring for a person suffering from Alzheimer’s is significant. At some point in time, a family will have to look for assistance with the care.

Most “board and care” and “assisted living facilities” are willing and capable of providing for a person suffering from Alzheimer’s. These facilities are similar to nursing homes, but with less of an institutional atmosphere. If, however, a senior becomes increasingly disoriented, perhaps even occasionally wandering away, they may require a facility with a dementia waiver.

Despite the name, a “dementia waiver” is an indication that a facility and staff have additional training and licensing for the care of patients with dementia. On top of the additional training, the actual facility may be secured with a perimeter to keep patients on the grounds.

Alzheimer’s disease leaves a mark on family and friends as well as the victim. There are, however, facility options that can at least take the care burden off of you.

Alex Jensen is with http://www.careplacement.com - a free placement service for seniors in need of assisted living, board and care or skilled nursing facilities in San Diego and Southern California.

Acne is one of the most common skin problems affecting people worldwide. A big misconception is that acne affects only teenagers, but many are surprised to learn that adults also suffer from this same inconvenience. Among the many causes are clogged pores resulting from makeup, everyday air particles and often a simple case of hormonal changes. While acne is a part of life for many individuals, it can be effectively treated.

One of the best natural remedies for acne is to wash your face at least twice on a daily basis. Early in the morning and late at night are both good times to cleanse the face. A moisturizing soap will be the most gentle for your skin whereas others with a harsh ingredient may strip the skin of it’s natural moisture and may even cause itching and/or redness.

Many people choose to use retail acne treatment products, which can be effective if used properly. It is very important, however, that consumers read and understand the instructions and/or warning labels found in the packaging. All acne treatment creams, pads or face wash products should be kept away from the eyes and are for external use only. This is not only true of retail products, but prescribed medications as well.

For a recurring or severe case of acne, many sufferers turn to a dermatologist for a more aggressive treatment. In most cases, a prescribed routine and medication can help to treat acne. In most cases, a follow-up visit will be scheduled so that the doctor may monitor the patient’s progress and determine whether additional steps should be taken to treat the problem.

It is very important to avoid aggravating, or disrupting, any and all acne blemishes. Otherwise, the sufferer will face a possible bacterial infection from dirt and/or germs that may reside underneath the fingernail. Many believe that just because their fingernails appear clean, there is nothing to worry about. That’s simply not true. There are many germs and bacteria, which are not visible to the naked eye, that reside underneath the fingernail. This is why an acne sufferer should avoid any direct contact between their hand and the blemish area(s).

The information in this article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be considered as, or used in place of, medical advice or professional recommendations for acne diagnosis and/or treatment. If necessary, acne sufferers should consult a dermatologist or qualified physician for acne treatment.
