How Micro Loans Can Mean Macro Success for Your Business
“Inch by inch, row by row…that’s the way my garden grows” was a favorite saying of my grandmother’s — usually when she was trying to teach me something about patience!
While I never mastered the art of having patience, I have learned how that saying can apply to creating a successful business.
If you’ve got big dreams for starting or growing your own business, but you lack the start-up capital, technical assistance or training that you need to succeed, then start by thinking…small. In fact, think smaller than small! Think micro — as in “microenterprise development programs”.
What is a microenterprise development program?
Basically, it’s a government sponsored or supported program that provides start-up or expansion capital, technical assistance and training to microbusinesses. It’s designed to help entrepreneurs who don’t have access to traditional means of credit. Which means that if you’re low-income, you’ve got bad or no credit, you don’t have enough collateral to apply for a business loan — then you’re a good candidate for a microloan.
Need other help?
How about training? Learning to write a business plan? Want to go back to school? Need help understanding how to put together a cash flow statement?
Most microenterprise development programs also offer training, workshops and other assistance. If they don’t offer it themselves, they’ll be able to refer you to a community organization that does, and guess what? The help is often free, or offered for a very low cost!
What is a microenterprise? It is any business that can be started for less than $35,000, has fewer than five employees and has an annual revenue of less than $100,000.
What kind of businesses are eligible for microenterprise loans?
Traditional businesses such as:
*beauty parlors
*bakeries
*auto or small engine repair shops
*childcare facilities
*arts and craft sellers.
Nontraditional businesses such as:
*massage therapists
*event planners
*business, life and relationship coaches
*soap and essential oil manufacturers
*acupuncturists
If you want to start and run your business out of your home? You can. If you’re ready to move out of the basement and into your own building? Microenterprise can help.
Where can you Find a Microenterprise Development Program in Your Community?
*Check out local nonprofit organizations such as the United Way, local community colleges or Small Business Development Center
*Talk to a SCORE Counselor
*Visit your local Chamber of Commerce
*Contact your local women’s organization or other small business group
*Visit http://www.microenterprisesuccess.com for free resources, information and helpful articles

Take Action and Make a Better World
Albert Einstein is quoted as having said, “the world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it”.
These days, everybody is aware of the social, environmental, emotional and spiritual destruction that penetrates every aspect of our life.
Although we all ‘know’ this reality, we have funny ways of dealing with this knowledge.
Some look the other direction, “If I don’t see this homeless person laying in the gutter, then he isn’t really there.”
Some pretend it doesn’t exist, “It’s not possible that they kill women and children, so it cannot be so.”
Others convince themselves it’s not really their problem, “Let the people in the Middle-East kill each other, it doesn’t affect me.”
Some say, it’s not their responsibility; “I pay my taxes, so the government should take care of that.”
Still others like to complain about the situation, “In the old days it was better, today everyone is corrupted, they should have…”
The common thread in all these reactions is – inactivity.
The result is a terminal disease called apathy.
The only cure is taking action.
Someone has to start and lead the way, creating a better world.
What about you?
YES, YOU!
You know what is wrong.
Take a moment and make a list of all the things that are presently wrong in the world.
From extinction of rainforests, warfare, poverty, violence in schools to favoring your work over your family.
Make this list as complete as possible.
Then take a look at it and get horrified for a moment.
OK, STOP!
You know what can be done differently.
Take another moment and change your energy.
Think of all the possible solutions to any of the problems you have just raised.
Don’t censor yourself. Just write down anything that comes to mind.
Immediately your energy increases once more.
OK, STOP!
Now ask the vital question, “What is it that I can do?”
What can be your first step?
Any action will do.
Write it down.
Commit yourself to do it. Starting now.
How does it feel inside?
If it looks like fear, name it excitement.
How does it feel now?
OK, stop analyzing, brainstorming, planning.
Go out there and do it!
NOW!
I can hear you think, “I can’t change this world alone?”
Do you really believe it?
Take action and people will follow.
Most people are afraid to take initiative. Even when they
realize that there is a problem, and even when they have a possible solution.
People are afraid to take the risk and be visible.
People are afraid to make a mistake or look foolish.
Most people prefer to sit in the familiar shit, than to risk the unknown…
But something different is happening as soon as you are willing to become visible.
Suggest a possible course of action, and start doing it.
Immediately the people around you will become confronted with their indifference.
Some will support you, some will object. But the apathy dissipates.
Those that support you, take them on board.
Make them partners in your vision, let them choose their level of participation, and let them do it their way. All you have to do is keeping their eyes on the purpose and direction and from time to time whisper softly in their ears: “you can, you can, you can.”
Those that object to your movements, can be handled in two ways:
You can either let them be, and go your way.
Create as large a distance as possible from them as you can, otherwise they will drain your energy with their constant criticism, complaining, inactivity…
Or you can try and move them. Confront them with their resistance, the prices they pay for the choices in their life, the possibilities they miss. It is hard work usually – ensure that it’s not taking you away from your task at hand.
For now, let’s focus on those who do come aboard.
So you’re the captain now.
Here are the basics of leadership from the heart:
- You can only take people as far as you are.
If you wish people to go further, you have to go further.
- As a leader, people look up to you – you become a role model.
All you need is to be authentic. Nothing else.
- Develop patience, compassion and sense of humor for others, as you’ve been there before.
- Your highest goal should be continuous growth – yours as well as others.
- Dealing with challenges is your bottom line.
Perceive each difficulty as a new challenge and express your creativity and wisdom in handling it.
- Get in contact with the bigger picture.
Meditate, contemplate, and create your own life vision.
- Leadership from the heart is about doing it together.
Everyone should be partner to the vision.
- Take responsibility for your situation.
Stop the futile practices of hoping, excusing, blaming and shaming.
- Empower people for a better world.
Ask more questions; give fewer answers.
- Operate from personal power, cooperation and friendship.
Drop the use of force, authority and status.
To make this world a better place you can start with simply taking care of one thing and nurturing it. Let it grow. Let others see you care.
And ultimately, if it is not enough or if it is too late, then we go down – but at least we go down trying. We go down knowing we did not waste our love and our life.
If you don’t want to waste your life and your love – what are you going to do?

Stock Brokerage Firms
Stock brokers play a crucial role in trading of shares at exchanges. Not only can they themselves buy and sell shares on a day-to-day basis; they are also allowed to let others use their accounts for undertaking similar transactions. This facility provided by stock brokers is used by both sub-brokers and small investors. Web-based share trading has further helped multiply transaction volumes at exchanges, in turn pushing their capitalization to stratospheric levels. The growing depth in the stock markets has attracted more capital, helping maintain liquidity in the markets.
Anyone who is looking to invest in the stock markets might well benefit from these brokers. A specific commission is charged by stock brokers for services provided by them to their clients. The chargeable commission rates may vary, depending on the package of services offered by brokers. Some just offer basic transactions to their clients. Others may offer a few services beyond the trading facility, such as contract negotiations. Then there are the big brokering houses, which offer a wide range of value-added services in addition to the basic trading facility.
The type of broker that will really suit your requirements depends on the level of investment you plan to make. If you are a beginner to the stock markets, you may be better off using market intelligence provided by stock brokers. In addition, you can also turn to your broker whenever you need advice. Stock brokers are always there to guide you. You can rely on inputs provided by your stock brokers because, besides the advantage of hands-on experience, they are also well-supported by in-depth market research. Their analysis is very incisive because of their involvement in long-term market trends, in addition to their understanding of possible trends for the near future.
Experienced stock market investors do not need any specialized market intelligence to make decisions, and so they can manage without the help of a big brokering house. In fact, they often prefer to act on their own instincts, rather than on any “expert” advice. Accordingly, they can also save on commissions payable to brokers and improve their profit margins.

Wilderness Landscape Photography — The Practicalities of Getting Out There
Ever dreamed of travelling to isolated wilderness areas to photograph the landscape but been defeated by the practicalities of getting there? Wished you had a helicopter? Wondered how you could hike with a heavy pack and camp out for days at a time?
Well, this Australian amateur wilderness landscape photographer did it. Here’s the story of the daunting task that lay ahead and how I overcame the obstacles.
Background
My son works at Olympic Dam Mine situated about 90km north of Woomera in outback South Australia, and lives with his wife and little family at Roxby Downs, the town constructed to service the mine. He’s an electrician, and besides taking a few pictures of electrical installations, the massive machinery he often works on, and my granddaughter, has little interest in photography.
I drove for 21 hours from the Far South Coast of New South Wales, to visit my son and to see this arid desert region, which has become his home for the foreseeable future.
Opportunity for Wilderness Landscape Photography
Well, the desert is fairly flat and quite bland at first glance but that’s not the full story.
With dry salt lakes, myall trees, stone strewn clay pans, and red sand dunes, wilderness landscape photography images clamour for my attention from Roxby Downs to Andamooka and beyond to Lake Torrens.
Getting Around the Desert
But how can I get around? Distance is so vast and the country so inhospitable. It will kill you just for being there if you don’t look out. The family station wagon won’t go far off the bitumen. The tracks are so rough, and when it rains in this six-inch rainfall country, even a 4×4 will bog down or slip in the clay soil. There’s no way I could afford a 4×4 good enough for the trip from the coast to the centre and reliable enough to go out alone into that country. Furthermore, you wouldn’t take a good-looking vehicle on those rocky, desert tracks.
So I decided on an ATV. That’s an “All Terrain Vehicle,” “Quad Bike,” “four wheel motorbike.” I can transport it in a trailer behind the car and go to the end of the road, then jump on the bike.
Setting Up The ATV
The bike, set up with boxes on the back and front racks, pulls a small trailer. With this configuration I not only get myself way out beyond where a 4×4 will go without too much walking, but also my camera gear, tools, emergency supplies, water, fuel and my camp as well. In a nutshell, that’s about it.
Navigating the Wilderness Landscape
Navigation is with a topographic map, compass and GPS. Using the coordinates from the GPS, I know where I am on the map which is so much simpler than trying to identify distant features on a flat landscape.
For months, in my spare time, I studied the maps, getting the feel of the geography and topography and comparing this to the satellite images on Google Earth. This way I identified areas of likely interest. It’s amazing how the salt build up in Lake Torrens shows up on the satellite images confirming what I suspected from the elevation contours on the topographic map.
Wilderness Landscape Photography Trip
It’s 82 km from the bitumen to Bosworth Homestead, travelling right across Arcoona Station on the way. Parking the car beside a shearers hut, and after some good geographic and topographic advice from the pastoralist, I jumped on the bike and headed out along the track that follows the western side of Station Creek to Andamooka Island and made camp as the sun was setting.
Now, I’ve always wanted to camp on an island since I read “The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe”, as a boy. Andamooka Island, about 40 km long and up to 10 km wide is in Lake Torrens and separated from the mainland by a channel varying in width from a couple of hundred meters to a couple of kilometres.
The shallower parts of the channel were dry, so crossing was no trouble. Extensive salt water holes in the channel, super saturated and with the salt crystallizing out, provided micro and full view landscape images over coming days. With the sky subtly reflected in the base of salt crystals covered with shallow water, the stark vista was a wilderness landscape photography opportunity to be seized. Sights to blow your mind!
Camping Out
Camping, as you would imagine, was pretty basic. You can’t carry much on an ATV. No esky means no fresh meat, but tinned tuna on top of tinned beans and spaghetti goes down well when you’re hungry.
Priorities in Wilderness Landscape Photography
Photography took precedence over eating. Each day: out of bed, on the bike and off photographing before sunrise. Back to camp for brunch about noon. Off photographing again till late and then try to get back to camp before the diminishing glow of the setting sun left me in the dark. Although I have good lights on the bike, the country is just too rough to cover in the dark.
Hidden Dangers in the Desert
Although rare, this country is known to host the world’s most venomous snake, the inland taipan, as well as the king brown and several other dangerous species. There are also said to be scorpions about. I’m told that the dingoes have been eradicated from this area, south of the dog fence, but the nights were still pretty scary. Every time the breeze rustled the tent I’d wake, laying tense and listening for the sound of pads on the rocks. Needles to say, I gave my sleeping bag a good shake out before getting in each night.
Coming Wilderness Landscape Photography Trip
Well, I came home with a heap of digital images, some colour film to send for processing and some B&W to process myself. I’m going again, you know. Want to come with me? Then go to my website, send an e-mail and we’ll talk about it.

Women’s Health
Consider one of the most potent forces now marketed to rapidly aging baby-boomers: Replacement hormone therapy. Estrogen is touted to alleviate symptoms from hot flashes, prevent osteoporosis (the so-called “brittle bone” disease of aging), and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
But estrogen is not without risk. Because “pure” estrogen increases the risk of uterine cancer, some women take a combination pill which combines estrogen and progestin. Although this lowers the risk of uterine cancer, some experts worry that any replacement hormone might increase the long-term risk of breast cancer. The long-awaited results of the Postmenopausal Estrogen/ Progestin Intervention Trials released last November revealed that hormones reduced the risk of heart disease but the study was too short-term to address the possible long-term breast cancer risk.
Estrogen or exercise?
Before you reach for a hormone pill or a patch, consider a “wonder” therapy that you may have overlooked. It’s called exercise.
Walking has been shown to lower high blood pressure and exercise can help control, and possibly even prevent, diabetes. Both high blood pressure and diabetes are strong heart disease risk factors in women.
As for osteoporosis, weight-bearing exercises, such as walking and lifting weights, help build strong bones. Even swimming, not traditionally thought of as a bone-builder, may be beneficial.
Remember though, if you have heart disease or other medical problems, talk to your doctor before undertaking vigorous exercise.
If you’ve undergone a hysterectomy, have severe menopausal symptoms, or very strong risk factors for heart disease or osteoporosis, hormones may benefit you. But whether or not you opt for replacement hormones, you may want to join me in trying exercise, the other “miracle” therapy.
Women’s Health Facts:
According to the experts, the most common sexual problem experienced by female heart patients is a lack of desire.
If a woman has undergone heart surgery, she may feel undesirable because of her incision. Or she may be afraid of taking an active role when having sex.
Her partner may hold back out of fear of hurting her. To make matters worse, some medications can dampen passion.
The key to a good sexual relationship is the same as the key to any other good relationship communication. If you’re accustomed to discussing your problems frankly, you should find it easier to talk about those of a sexual nature.
One of the biggest fears experienced by all heart patients, male or female, is that sexual excitement will lead to a heart attack. Happily, this fear simply is not grounded in fact. Here are the facts for most women:
If you are able to climb a flight of stairs without becoming short of breath or experiencing chest pain you should be able to resume passive sex with safety.
If you are planning to be the active partner, or anticipate finding sex especially exciting, climbing two flights of stairs without breathlessness or chest pain is the rule-of-thumb.
If you have concerns, talk to your doctor. An approved exercise program can help you get into shape for anything, including sex!
A heart-healthy lifestyle should include a satisfying sex life as well. And that’s no joke.

Taking Photographs for Your Scrapbook
Once you begin scrapbooking, you begin to see photography in a whole new light. When I created my first album I realized that my photos always had way too much space that was not part of the picture, meaning too much sky, or too much grass.
Now, one of the joys of scrapbooking is that you can cut away all of the excess sky, or all of the excess trees, however after you begin your first scrapbook you begin to take pictures a little bit differently. As you look through the camera lens, you begin to see the scrapbook you’ll be making.
You’ll also to begin thinking about a “story” or a theme. I know for me, I take more pictures now, however where I used to take 5 shots of the same thing, I now take 5 shots of a whole story.
I also tend to take my camera to more places now, knowing I want to preserve the memory. It’s fun when folks ask me if I’ll share my photos, since no one else thought to bring a camera to a particular event.
If you are using a digital camera, you can view your picture immediately and determine if this is the picture you want. You then have the opportunity to either retake the picture or if you like the picture but see a lot of “waste” you know you’ll be able to cut it out prior to putting the photo into an album.
After you upload the photos from your camera, you can then print them out on photo paper, which can be purchased at any office supply store.
So, the next time you take out your camera, ask yourself what pictures you envision in your new scrapbook.

Learning to Meditate
I love to meditate and have done so as long as I can remember. I fall into a natural meditation usually when I am half-awake, half-asleep.
If you have never meditated or have not been able to, try doing it the following way and see if it helps. The times when I have trouble falling into it naturally, I will clear my mind and concentrate only on one object (mine being Jesus). If any thoughts interrupt me, I’ll push them aside and return to concentrating on my object.
Don’t get frustrated if you have to repeatedly push aside thoughts– especially if you have had a hectic or troubling day. Also, this exercise usually gets easier over time. Soon you’ll find all the days’ problems will start to leave you and you’ll start thinking or getting a picture of something you know is not of the ordinary. Go with this thought and try not to concentrate on it too hard, or if it’s a picture, try not to see more into the future than what you’re seeing; this can interrupt the meditation. If this happens, just start concentrating on your object again.
There is one meditation that stands out above the rest. I found myself in the middle of no where. All scenery was a grayish tan. There was all flat land and one huge mountain. I found myself on top of the mountain taking in all the beauty of being so high above everything. Then I remember just doing a perfect backward dive and having the most serene feeling. About half way down the mountain I turned into an eagle and soared straight up and circled around the area. My meditation then ended.
You will find that meditation gets easier with practise. Just like learning anything new, you have to teach your mind to send your body the correct instructions. Soon, it will become second nature to you. If you find you are having a hard time learning to relax, try to do something which helps you relax before-hand, like: taking a soothing bath, reading, listening to music, etc …
I have had a lot of unique experiences while meditating. They have all been so pleasant. It’s so nice to be able to relax and clear your mind of all the days’ troubles. Just that in itself is enough to try meditation. If you decide to try it, I hope you find it as relaxing, tranquil and cleansing as I do.

Hamstrings Development for Rookies
Just like any part of the legs, the hamstrings muscle is an often neglected muscle group. Again, prior knowledge dramatically influences a person`s decision to train them. This article is going to look into the basics of the hamstring muscles and exercises that can be performed to make them look better. You are also going to learn why the hamstrings are the most prone to injury and common injuries that occur with having underdeveloped hamstrings.
The hamstrings are the muscles that run from behind and below your knees, to the backs of your thighs, to the bones that you use to sit down on. They consist of five major muscles. The psoas major and minor, and the iliacus all help with flexion and lateral roatation. The semitendinosus and semimembranosus both allow for extension, and the rectus femoris allows for flexion. It is very important that you learn the different sections that make up the hamstring muscles if you want to reach your maximum potential.
The hamstrings become active with the completion of knee flexion when the knees are extended or through the completion of hip extension when the knees are more flexed. Despite the importance of exercising your hamstrings, there are very few exercises that primarily emphasize the quadriceps muscle. The selection of exercises performed will depend on what type of equipment that is available to you. If you have no equipment, you can do bodyweight exercise such as bridges and flutter kicks. Since most of the exercises you perform target other muscle groups as well, you should train hamstrings on the same day as your quads and lower back to reduce the chance of overtraining. The best exercises for this type of split are the dumbbell lunges, romanian deadlift, and the stiff-legged dumbbell deadlift.
Underdevelopment of the hamstrings is the main cause of hamstring inflexibility and that is not the only problem associated with underdeveloped hammies. Tight hamstrings can cause poor posture and not allow you to bend over completely. Knee pain, torn cartilage in your knees, and wearing of cartilage behind your knee cap are also caused from tight hamstrings. For these reasons, it is very important that you stretch before and after your workout. Stretching is boring and very time consuming but the results are well worth it in the long run. Massage therapy is another good investment you should consider if you are currently suffering from tight hamstrings.
Every bodybuilder needs to train his or her hamstrings, but it`s very important that non-bodybuilders take care of their legs and at least go on a walk every now and then. To many people sit back thinking that the longer they complain about being overweight that the fat will just come off by itself. Right now is the best time to do something about it. How can you change tommorow if you can`t change today is a quote that I live by. You need to start making yourself better right now and the rewards will come with it tommorow. Until next time, later.

Autism and Oxytocin
Oxytocin is a nine amino acid peptide produced in the brain and released by the pituitary gland. It is produced in the body naturally, by both males and females, and plays a role in reproduction and may even contribute to those feelings we call “love.”
Recent research has linked oxytocin with the ability to trust others. Evidence suggests that it may even play a major role in a person’s ability to take care of others and for avoiding conflict.
It’s been demonstrated in animals that oxytocin acting within the brain plays a major role in establishing maternal behavior, as scientists put oxytocin into the ventricles of the brains of virgin rats and non-pregnant sheep, and it rapidly induced maternal behavior.
A team of Japanese and American researchers did a recent study where they genetically engineered mice to not process oxytocin. The result was that the males became more aggressive and the females often forgot to take care of their babies. Additionally, the males were quicker to attack aggressors and they would fight for a longer period of time than the mice with normal oxytocin production.
Acute stress can inhibit oxytocin release in humans, and that may explain sudden anger if someone is experiencing a lot of stress.
One characteristic of autism is a lack of a sense of empathy towards other people. They can sometimes be aggressive or have trouble relating to others.
While it would be quite a stretch for these results to go from mice to humans, scientists believe that this research may help to develop a treatment for people with autism. It could prove that internal problems with oxytocin may help offer an explanation about the nature of autism. If a direct relationship is found, it may provide us a way to help those with autism. Jessica Deets has been researching the internet for over 4 years and finds valuable information to help people. The website at http://www.bestautismnews.com has information, news and a current blog regarding autism breakthroughs.
