Traditional southwest Design style focuses on the old southwest with American Indian influences. Look for natural materials such as straw, adobe, wood, hand-woven tapestries and bold desert colors. The twist that helped the style gain a foothold was more fun motif’s like howling coyotes, dancing kokopelis, and playful iguanas. The colors also changed to teal and aqua.
Contemporary Design is smooth and sleek with a focus on line and form rather than lots of details and comfort. There is a sense of quiet emanates from contemporary spaces because of their sheer simplicity and the lack of distraction. Color palettes are soothing and simple, white and black are popular with pops of bold colors to direct the eye. You want a balance between light and dark which is balancing. Fabrics are smooth like cottons, leathers, velvets are frequently seen. a lot of hard metals are as they epitomize the strong structure of modern Decorating.
